Composts have generally improved plants growth. Specifically compost C1 (Green Wastes only) for corn, soy and okra (A. esculentus) and composts C2 (Food + Green wastes Wastes) and C4 (Green Wastes Wastes + Food + Limestone and clay) for citronella.
- best growth performance obtained for plants grown on compost C1 come from a good uptake of nutrients by plants. Ionic balance is equilibrated in soil (Etchebest, 2000; Toundou et al., 2014).
- best growth citronella plants on C2 and C4 composts derived from their content in nitrogen (1.20% and 0.75%) (Beech, 1990; Rao, 2001; Tougma, 2006).
- Plants grown on compost C3 exhibit low values of height and leaves number. This could be is due to low nutrient content of this compost and a high content of calcium preventing absorption of other ions by plants (K for example).
We therefore conclude that:
- C1 (green wastes only) is the best for a good growth of corn (grass), Soybeans (legumes) and okra (mallow and vegetables)
- C2 and C4 are the best compost for good growth of tufts of citronella.
However, we expect the yield parameters at harvests to confirm these hypotheses.
Nature i a winner!
